Beaver Falls is in northern Lewis County, NY, the heart of dairy farming country. Yes, there really are more cows than people! This serene and peaceful hamlet was established on then prosperous lumber and paper making industry. Those mills were dependent on the Beaver River, which runs through the hamlet, for power and transportation in those days.
Beaver Falls is the home of the local public school, Beaver River Central School. It educates children from pre-kindergarten through grade twelve, a student population of about 1000 in one building. The small class sizes and personal relationships between faculty and students create a comfortable and productive learning environment. The school is well known for its academic excellence. Its alma mater tells of this picturesque locale: "There's a land of rushing water where once a forest grew, and the dark trees trail their branches in the river's dusky hew."
In this rural setting, we also enjoy a generous supply of lake effect snow coming off Lake Ontario. It gets quite deep in nearby Tug Hill! Many residents ski at Snow Ridge or snowmobile the groomed trails. Temperatures occasionally dip to 30* below zero, when the air prickles your nose, the snow squeaks with every step, and the frost makes lacy designs on the window panes!
